General Description

Centronics, MDR, VHDCI, HPDSUB Connector Guide

Use these cables to interconnect equipment which utilizes 68-pin MDR (Mini Delta Ribbon) connectors. These attractive cables feature 68-pin MDR Male connectors on each end, overmolded ends with strain reliefs, twisted pair wiring, and a shielded cable jacket. Latches secure the cable to the mating connector. Two cable lengths (3 feet and 6 feet) are available. These cables are general purpose and are compatible with Winford Engineering's 68-pin Mini D-Ribbon breakout boards.

The connector used on this product goes by several different names, including Mini D Ribbon, Mini Delta Ribbon, MDR, Mini Centronics, Half-Pitch Centronics, HPCN, HPCN68, Half-Pitch CN, and Micro Centronics. Sometimes these 68-pin MDR connectors are called Mini 68 or SCSI-III connectors. It is also occasionally referred to as a SCSI2 connector, though that is not typically a proper use of the term.. However, be aware that there is some confusion in the terms commonly used. The manufacturer and model of the connector on these breakout boards is listed below, making it possible to carefully compare the connector on your application to the connector used on these breakout boards. MDR Connector Details

The Mini Delta Ribbon (MDR) series of connectors provides a compact arrangement of durable sliding 'ribbon' contacts. The high contact density and good performance at high speeds have yielded many applications for this connector type. These are 'half-pitch' connectors, meaning that the contact spacing is tighter than full-size Centronics connectors, such as those used on our BRKDC36F or BRKDC50F breakout boards. The 'half-pitch' connectors utilize contacts on 0.05" centers.

Twisted Pairing

This cable utilizes twisted pair wiring. The pair mapping is as follows: 1/35, 2/36 ... 33/67, 34/68.

Mini D-Ribbon Breakout Boards

These MDR cables are compatible with Winford Engineering's 68-pin Mini D-Ribbon breakout boards, shown below.
