General DescriptionThese RJ45 breakout boards bring all 8 pins plus shield of a shielded 8P8C modular jack out to screw terminal blocks for easy connection and prototyping work. The connection from the jack's shield is connected to a copper plane on the bottom side of the PCB in addition to being brought out to a screw terminal. Each pin, including the shield, is also brought to solder pads (5 per line) at 0.1" spacing, allowing easy addition of standard pin headers. Please note that the breakout boards are manufactured with a connection between each connector pin and the corresponding screw terminal; no soldering of any type is necessary. The solder pads simply provide an area for making optional connections to headers or other components.
This break out board is perfect for experimentation and prototype work, as well as for use in the educational laboratory. It is well-suited for work with RS-232 serial ports, data acquisition equipment, and any other device that uses an RJ45/8P8C connector. It can be helpful in making MODBUS connections. A breakout board is sometimes referred to as a "transition module", "terminal board", or "interface module".
For those working with ethernet networks, please note that this board is not CAT5 certified. However, our experience so far shows that these boards can be used on 100Mbps ethernet networks without introducing problems. As usual, the wires you connect to the breakout board's screw terminals should maintain their twist as close to the screw terminals as possible.
For mounting on a panel, we suggest the rubber feet version (-FT), 1/4" nylon standoffs under the mounting holes, and #6 screws.

DIN Rail Mount VersionThese products are also available with DIN rail mounting clips for quick and convenient mounting where DIN rail is used. Product numbers ending with -DIN come with DIN clips already installed and ready to mount. The clips allow mounting on standard 35mm rail as well as 32mm rail.
