Make connections quickly and reliably with this breakout board, which brings every pin of its 68-pin VHDCI (Very High Density Interconnect) connector out to spring terminals.
Each pin, including shield, is also brought to solder pads (2 per pin) at 0.1" spacing,
allowing easy addition of pin headers or other components.
Please note that the breakout boards are manufactured with a connection between each connector pin and the corresponding terminal block position;
no soldering of any type is necessary. The solder pads simply provide an area for making optional connections to additional headers or other components.
This breakout board features push-in spring connection terminal blocks. These screwless spring clamp terminal blocks allow connections to be made very quickly and efficiently. The spring terminal connections are reliable and secure, but wires can be connected and disconnected in a fraction of the time required with standard screw terminal blocks. Simply depress the actuator button on top of the terminal block, insert or remove the wire, and release the button. Done! In addition, screwless spring connections can offer better results in environments where vibration could potentially loosen standard screw terminal block connections. If your application requires screw terminals rather than spring terminals, please consider the BRKAVH68FV1 design.
The BRKGVH68FV1-R breakout board contains a female 68-pin VHDCI connector, which is sometimes referred to as a SCSI-5 connector. This style of connector is used by a number of equipment vendors, including National Instruments™.
National Instruments™ uses this 68-pin VHDCI connector on some of their DAQ cards, making this breakout board a good option for interfacing to these National Instruments products. Note that NI™ actually uses two different styles of 68-pin connectors: the VHDCI, and the half-pitch DSUB (0.050 D-type). The Winford Engineering BRKGVH68FV1-R uses the VHDCI connector. This breakout board can also be used with 0.050 D-type boards by using an appropriate adapter cable.
At the time of this writing, National Instruments does not offer a breakout board / connector block for the 68-pin VHDCI connector. Instead, they offer a 68-pin half-pitch DSUB (0.050 D-type) connector block to support their 68-pin VHDCI DAQ boards; this requires the use of an adapter cable to convert between VHDCI and 0.050 DSUB. A typical combination of NI hardware would be the NI SCB-68A connector block and the SHC68-68-EPM adapter cable, or equivalent. In contrast, the BRKGVH68FV1-R breakout board can connect directly to VHDCI devices by using a standard VHDCI cable. Thus the BRKGVH68FV1-R breakout board is an alternative to the National Instruments SCB-68 or SCB-68A breakout module when interfacing to a VHDCI connector.

This breakout board is perfect for production applications as well as experimentation and prototype work. It is helpful for working with I/O cards, Data Aquisition (DAQ) devices, control systems, and other devices that use a 68-pin VHDCI (Very High Density Cable Interconnect) connector.

A breakout board is sometimes referred to as a "transition module", "terminal board", "terminal block", "breakout box", "breakout adapter", "terminator", or "interface module".
The VHDCI connector provides a compact arrangement of sliding contacts. The high contact density (0.8mm pitch) and good performance at high speeds make this connector a good choice for numerous applications, such as DAQ and SCSCI-5 equipment. For these breakout boards, Winford Engineering currently utilizes VHDCI connectors from Amphenol™ or TE™. Connector details are listed below.
